Hart Goes Republican
Hart used to be a Democratic stronghold, but many of those die-hard Democrats don’t live here anymore or have died or are maybe just too old.
There were 44 straight Republican votes cast in the election, including absentee, early and in person, compared to 30 for Democrats. There was one Libertarian vote and one Green party vote.
There were a total of 1,197 votes cast countywide, out of 3,970 registered voters. The County went Republican, not out of the norm.
The Republicans won every race in Hart (Voting Pct. 101). In the governor’s race, Greg Abbott got 86 votes to Wendy Davis’ 46. Kathie Glass got three. Leticia Van de Putte got 41 votes in Hart, compared to 85 for Dan Patrick in the Lieutenant Governor’s race. And, Van de Putte received endorsements from daily newspapers who often endorse Republican candidates. Patrick has been described as mean-spirited, divisive and out of touch with main stream Texans.
Mary Ewing received six votes in her write-in candidacy to oust incumbent Jo Cambell for Justice of the Peace. (Campbell is a Democrat.) Ewing got 200 votes countywide.
