Vic Nelson, 61, of Hart passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Dimmitt. Funeral services were on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Hart at 10 a.m. with Rev Tom Long of Vernon, former pastor of Hart’s First United Methodist Church, and James Jones officiating. Burial followed at Hart Cemetery. Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family visitation was on Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Music was by Neoma Williams, pianist, and Pat Smith, organist. Robbie Hawkins, music minister at First United Methodist Church in Hart, led the congregation in singing hymns. Hawkins also sang a solo, “Had It Not Been.”
Vic was born July 12, 1953, in Tulia, Texas, to David and Shirley Nelson. He was a 1971 graduate of Hart High School, and a lifelong resident of Castro County.
He married Dana Harman on January 12, 1973. He was very involved in many local co-ops, as well as serving on many boards: Dimmitt Agri Industries., Hart Producers Co-op Gin, Olton Grain Co-op, Ag Producers Co-op and High Plains Water District. Vic was involved in stock shows, 4-H and FFA. He was a well thought of and very successful farmer and businessman. He loved watching his grandkids play basketball and soccer, and enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, eating, fishing and jeep riding.
He is survived by his wife, Dana Nelson of Dimmitt; two sons, Brian Nelson and wife Christy of Canyon, and Brady Nelson and wife Ann of Nazareth; his mother, Shirley Nelson of Hart; two sisters, Cathy Garner of Ransom Canyon and Lisa Kiernan of Plano; six grandchildren, Brittany Nelson-Garnett, Braden Nelson, Berkley Albracht, Maggie Nelson, Mary Nelson and Miles Nelson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James Simpson, Leslie Davis, Mike Glenn, Curtis Durbin, Gregg Allen and Gordon Satterwhite. Honorary pallbearers were his “coffee shop buddies.”
He is preceded in death by his father, David Nelson. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice
