SWISHER ELECTRIC HOLDS 77TH ANNUAL MEETING

Cooperative members share meal, vote

TULIA, TEXAS—All Members of Swisher Electric Cooperative, Inc. are invited to attend its 77th Annual Meeting to be held Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Senior Citizens Center, located at 618 SE 2nd St.  Registration and the self-serve buffet supper begin at 6:30 p.m.

Positions One and Two will be open for  electing directors for  three-year terms.  Position One nominees are Jimie Reed, Michael Goss and Judson Walker. Position Two nominees are Brad Sharp and John Welps.   Votes must be cast by 7:15 p.m. when the business meeting begins.

Incumbent  Jimie Reed became a director in 1992 and has missed only two Swisher Electric board meetings in the past 24 years.  He is a native of Kress; a Texas Tech graduate with an animal science degree; and a farmer. He and his brothers have cattle, but their main interest is farming milo, cotton and wheat. Reed also represents Swisher Electric on the Golden Spread Electric Cooperative board.

Michael Goss and his wife, Jamie, live near Kress, where they farm and ranch. He attended Texas A&M University before pursuing his farming and ranching career. Their three children attend Kress schools where Goss currently serves on the school board. He also serves on the board of elders at the church they attend and also on the Swisher Co-op Gin Board.

Judson Walker is a lifelong resident of Swisher County. He and wife, Mary, have two children that are active in 4-H and Kress schools. He attended Sul Ross State University, studying agricultural business. He farms in the Claytonville area and serves Swisher Co-op Gin as the District 2 representative on the Plains Cotton Cooperative Board. In his spare time, he said he enjoys fishing and camping with his family.

Incumbent Brad Sharp is a farmer who has lived in Swisher County for 29 years and has been on Swisher Electric lines most of his life. He and Debbie are parents of four daughters and six grandchildren. Elected to the board in 2007, Sharp has taken all of the director educational classes available through NREC and is a Credentialed Cooperative Director. He felt the knowledge gained from these classes would help him do the job to the best of his ability. When he is not farming, he enjoys fishing, hunting and playing with his grandchildren.

John Welps is a self-employed hoof trimmer. His business is Welps Hoof Service, Inc. Welps and wife, Vanessa, and their four boys have been Swisher Electric members for 11 years. Welps is a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural education. He serves as the Nazareth Ballpark chairman, and in his spare time, enjoys camping with his family.

Be sure to attend and vote for the director of your choice. All members attending the annual meeting will receive a registration gift and will be eligible for the door prize drawings.
