County Commissioners Hold Meeting With County Committee To Ponder Courthouse Facility

Last Thursday evening, a group of Castro County residents, most of whom were named to a Courthouse Committee, met with the Commissioners Court in the Courthouse District Courtroom. Commissioners are Tom McLain, Pct. 1; Tim Elliott, Pct. 2; Steve Smith, Pct. 3; and Dan Schmucker, Pct. 4.

County Judge Carroll Gerber, who moderates meetings of the Commissioners Court, told those present that in November of 2011, the Court became concerned with the safety of the structure of the courthouse. The original portion of the courthouse was completed in 1939 during the Great Depression. An addition/renovation occurred in 1971 and renovation of the district courtroom, jury room and restroom was done in 2002.
