Five HHS Graduates Awarded Scholalrships
Five Hart High School Seniors Receive Scholarships
Five Hart High School seniors received scholarships at commencement exercises held in the elementary gymnatorium on Friday evening.
Valedictorian Abigail Rosas received a $500 scholarship from the Hart Lions Club. She also was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the family of Mark Trevizo, who died in September 2016 from injuries received in a work-related accident. Trevizo was a graduate of Hart High School. His family plans to continue the scholarship presentation.
Also receiving scholarships from the Lions Club were Abigail Rojas, $250, and $150 for I’Lynne Marquez. Marty Gerber, senior vice president of Centennial Bank, Hart Branch, presented a $500 scholarship to Leandra Perez from the Bank.
Abigail Rojas received a $2,700 scholarship from the Brumley Foundation through Frank Philips Junior College in Borger. Abigail Rosas received a $4,090 CAMP scholarship through West Texas A&M University, which she plans to attend. This scholarship is funded through the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Leandra Perez received a $200 scholarship from Panhandle Plains Higher Education Authority in Canyon. The Shandi McLain scholarship of $500 went to Kaitlyn Sweet.
Also eligible for first-year tuition and fees to South Plains College are the two honor students, Rosas and Marquez.
Hart math teacher Randy Stutes was the commencement speaker. He told the class that he found the top 15 graduation speeches from a search of the topic. The 15th was for students to try selflessness and give back, and the topics he emphasized to the graduates. He mentioned that as a young man, he met Elizabeth Dole and Yo Yo Ma, and was impacted by their unassuming, selfless actions.
Seniors receiving diplomas were Monique Ayala, Abram Carlos, Eleazar Esquivel, Danielle Godino, Marissa Godino, Jesus Guerrero, Josiah Holguin, Curtis Kawelmacher, Jose Luna, I’Lynne Marquez, Angel Morales, Leandra Perez, Abigail Rojas, Abigail Rosas, Mauricio Sanchez, Rey Sandoval, Ruben Sotelo and Kaitlyn Sweet.
