Frank Delano Barnes
Franklin Delano Barnes, 81, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015, in Lubbock. Funeral services were Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hart, with Les Reed, minister at First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, and Wilbur Ormond, pastor of Hart’s First United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services followed at 3 p.m. at the Childress Cemetery in Childress with Josh Faucett, pastor of First Baptist Church in Hart, officiating. Arrangements were handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family and friends visitation was Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Soloist Vivian Bennett sang “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden,” accompanied by Neoma Williams on the piano. Mrs. Williams and Pat Smith, organist, played the preludes and postludes.
Pallbearers were Tim Barnes, Trevor Barnes, Trent Barnes, Bryan Ray Crook, Mark Barnes, Ronnie Franks and Doug Barnes. Honorary pallbearers were Newlon Rowland, Gerald Franks, Weldon Jones, Richard Franks, Bobby Reed and Robbie Hawkins.
Frank was born in Arlington, Texas, on January 28, 1934, to Champ and Louise Barnes. He graduated from Texas Tech University with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree, and an Administrator Certification from West Texas State University. Frank taught Ag in Hermleigh, Texas, for 14 wonderful years and seven great years as Elementary Principal in Hart.
In 1976, Frank started Triple A Pump Company and had many, many good customers until his retirement in 2013. He was a former mayor of Hart and a former Chief of the Hart Volunteer Fire Department. Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and talking to flowers, and was an avid Red Raider sports fan!
Those left to cherish his wonderful memories are his wife, Shirley Barnes of Lubbock; two sons, Brad and his wife Karen of Hart, and Clay and his wife Hunter of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, Lori Barnes of Grapevine, Texas; three grandsons, Tim Barnes and his wife Mallory of Lubbock, Trevor Barnes of Slaton and Trent Barnes of Houston; one sister, Mary Lou Moore of Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Champ Barnes, Jr.
