Gene Davis
CONNER, MONTANA—Daniel E. (Gene) Davis passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 1:55 pm at Marcus Daily Hospice in Hamilton, Montana. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Lone Pine Cemetery, Darby, Montana.
Gene was born in Lamb County Texas on March 21, 1938, to Bernice Henderson and Willie Daniel Davis. His father abandoned him at age three and Gene was raised by his wonderful stepfather, Everett Cole of Hart, Texas.
Gene joined the U.S. Navy out of high school from Lockney Texas and served from June 1957 to December 1958.
On October 13, 1957, Gene married Mary Janette Bond in Lockney, Texas.
Gene later became a certified Gunsmith after attending the Colorado School of Trade in Denver, Colorado, from 1969 to 1970. He worked as a gunsmith in Billy Fred’s Gun Shop in Amarillo, Texas, for several years before moving to Conner, Montana, in 1978.
Gene is survived by his wife, Mary of Conner; two sons, Bret (Wendy) Davis of Conner and Patrick (Mary) Davis of White Sulpher Springs; two daughters, Lorie (Mike) Gause of Amarillo and Theron (Bill) Cline of Worden, Montana. He also is survived by six grandchildren, Craig (Charli Rae) Gause of Amarillo, Carley (Barrett) Saikowski of Amarillo, Luke (Kim) Davis of Hillsboro, Oregon, Ande (Elizabeth) Jorgenson of Omaha, Nebraska, Kaylee Jorgenson of Hamilton, Montana, and Morgan Davis of White Sulpher Springs, Montana.
Gene also is survived by three great-grandsons, Luke Caleb Davis of Hillsboro, Oregon, Tullar Gause and Mayer Saikowski, both of Amarillo.
Gene also is survived by his mother, Bernice Cole of Hart; a brother, Gary Cole of Hereford, Texas; three sisters, Ann Pevehouse of Hart, Linda Baker of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, and Carolyn Harmon of Dimmitt, Texas. Gene’s brother, Curtis Davis of Adairsville, Georgia, also passed away on May 20, 2014.
Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Raina Davis of Newton, Utah, and son-in-law, Paul Jorgenson of Hutchinson, Kansas.
Gene loved hunting, fishing and everything about the outdoors. Gene was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Gene’s name to the National Rifle Association.
