Jometa McLain

HART — Jometa McLain, 98, of Hart died Sunday, June 15, 2014, in Tomball.
Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2014, in First Baptist Church of Hart with the Rev. Josh Faucett, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Hart Cemetery. Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.
Music at her memorial service was provided by soloist, Barry Hazel of Dimmitt, and Pat Smith, organist, and Neoma Williams, pianist.
Pallbearers were Logan McLain, Taygen Smith, Keenan Albracht, Mason Sheffield, Sage Black and Tanner McLain. Honorary pallbearers were Ethan McLain, Tristan McLain, Kalem Smith, Orrin McLain, Trayton McLain and Seth McLain.
Jometa was born April 16, 1916, in Wellington, Texas, to John Walter and Della Pearl Malone. She was raised in Olton, and had been a resident of Hart since 1933. She and her husband, D.L. “Let,” farmed and raised sheep until he passed away, yet she still was very much involved until 2007.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hart, Daughters of the Nile, Good Neighbor Club, Hart Golden Group, and she was selected as a Hart Days Honored Pioneer. She loved cooking, yard work, sewing, canning, and she was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan. She loved to have family gatherings, celebrating holidays and cooking Sunday dinner for all of her family. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Geneva Adkisson, and husband Dan of Tomball; eight grandchildren, Connie Sheffield, Stephen Adkisson, D’Ann Adkisson, James McLain, Dana Black, Benny McLain, Sheryl Albracht and Jill Smith; seven great-granddaughters: Megan Sheffield, Kaley Adkisson, Jacy Black, Brooke McLain, Kembra Albracht, Kelcy Albracht and Kailee Smith; 12 great-grandsons: Logan McLain, Mason Sheffield, Taygen Smith, Sage Black, Keenan Albracht, Tanner McLain, Ethan McLain, Orrin McLain, Tristan McLain, Traytan McLain, Kalem Smith and Seth McLain; and three great-great-grandchildren: Mason McLain, Hattie McLain and Emrey Sheffield.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, D.L. “Let” McLain; a son, James Cleve McLain; daughter-in-law, Shirley Ann McLain; a grandson, Cary McLain; a grandson-in-law, Ricky Black; two brothers, Robert Walter and William Curtis Malone; and three sisters, Mary Bessie Starkey, Lillie Faye Starkey and Thelma Nadine Weaver.
