Ladyhorns Win One, Lose One
On January third, the Ladyhorns notched a win for 2014 when they traveled to Whiteface and won 39-25. Coach Adam Zepeda said, “This is a game I refused to lose.”

He said the Ladies got up early in the first half, 8-5, and said the girls played patiently and got off good shots.

In the second quarter, the Ladyhorns went into a stall mode, and ended the quarter up 14-7.

The ladies from Whiteface tried to pressure the Ladyhorns in the third quarter, Zepeda said. Hart responded by going into stall offense and got some points on transition, which allowed Hart to maintain its lead and ended the period 28-17 over its opponents.

In the fourth quarter, Hart got into a groove, and made its free throws. The Ladyhorns scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, and Whiteface added eight.

Cailin Neudorf had 15 points in the game; Anna Macias, six points on two three-pointers; Desearay Saucedo, 13; and Kaitlyn Sweet, five.

On Tuesday, Hart hosted the defending state champions for Class IA, Division II, when the Lady Panthers from Whitharral came to town. The Lady Panthers lost the bulk of that championship team to graduation, Zepeda told The Pulse.

At the end of the first quarter, Hart was only down by one, 16-15. All but four of the 15 points was comprised of treys: Cailin Neudorf, three treys and Anna Macias, one.

The first half, Zepeda relates, was like a chess game with back-and-fourth play. Hart scored eight points in the second quarter and Whitharral only had two points.

The Ladyhorns, however, came out flat in the third quarter. “We were nervous,” Zepeda said. Only two points were scored by Hart and Whitharral had seven. The period ended with a 25-25 tie.

In the fourth, Whitharral got a quick three. Neudorf countered with a three, and Hart got within five points. In the waning moments of the fourth quarter, Hart couldn’t get anything to fall. “We couldn’t catch any breaks,” said Zepeda. Hart lost 35-42.

He said, however, the game was an inside victory. He said the Ladies got compliments on their play, and he said they showed more sound fundamental play.

He said Hart is trying to catch up as the coaches instill successful programs.

He said that the ladies have a drive and want to get better. They want to make the playoffs. Being consistent is something they need to work on, he adds.

He also reminds fans that the team has four seniors, no juniors, two sophomores and seven freshmen.
