Funeral mass for Maria Angelita Niabes, 82 of Hart was at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hart with Father Raj Malapady, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Hart Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Maria Angelita died Tuesday, November 24, in Hart. She was born August 2, 1933, in Beeville, Texas, to Anacleto and Eva Basquez. She married Santos Niabes in 1953 in Littlefield, Texas, and then moved to Hart, where they resided.
Maria Angelita worked many years for Smith Potato, Inc. She also worked many years alongside her husband in contract labor. The past 22 years, she was a housewife. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and being out in the yard. Her biggest love was family.
She leaves behind her husband, Santos Niabes of Hart; one daughter, San Juanita Niabes of Plainview; one son, Pedro Niabes of San Benito, TX; one daughter-in-law, Casilda Niabes; three granddaughters, Cassandra Lee Niabes, Christina Lee Niabes and Brittany Llamas; three grandsons, Pedro Niabes, Jr., Joey Llamas and David Christopher Pinon; six sisters, Joventina Guerrero, Amelia Carbajal, Maggie Martinez and Micaela Vasquez, all of George West, Texas, and Maria Luisa Carrasco of Hart and Ofelia Corrales of Houston; three brothers, Robert Basquez of Three Rivers, Texas, Jesus Basquez of George West and Leonardo Basquez of Albuquerque, N.M.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Santos Niabes, Jr. Maria will be greatly missed, but the memories we have will carry throughout each and everyday.
