Maybe A ‘HOME’ House
Maybe a HOME House Is In The Works
The City of Hart has been trying for many years to get a HOME house built. Home is a partnership program under the federal Housing and Urban Development. When the effort began, the rules were to get five residences approved, which includes demolition of the current home(s). Now, allegedly because of lack of funds, one house can be approved.
At the March 9 meeting of the Hart City Council, a bid by Qualls, Inc. of Abernathy of $101,965 was approved for a three bedroom house for Veronica Gonzales.
In other business, the City amended the budget for upcoming seal coating of some city streets.
The Council then approved a three percent across-the-board raise for salaried employees, beginning May 1 of this year.
The purchase of a commercial lawn mower was discussed. Public Utility Supt. Adrian Rosas said he will shop around for a mower and present information to the Council at a later date.
Mayor Stanley Dyer said he has been serving on a County Grand Jury and is more aware of the drug and alcohol problem in Hart, especially methamphetamine. He suggested consideration of an undercover officer for Hart. This will be looked into and perhaps discussed at a later meeting. (The City does not have a law enforcement officer, instead relying on the Castro County Sheriff’s Dept.)
Present were Aldermen Danny Rodriguez, Wamon Foster, Paul Ramirez and Eliazar Castillo, and Alderwoman Vickie Ethridge, as well as Dyer.
