Veronica Gonzalez And Children Get New HOME
[ private] A program called HOME, funded through federal grants through the Housing and Urban Development agency, has finally come through for one Hart woman, Veronica Gonzalez.
The City of Hart began the process of working with HOME applicants in 2010 through HOWCO in Lubbock. HOWCO coordinators changed over the years, but finally last year, a new house was constructed for Gonzalez, who successfully completed the requirements to get the grant. And, applicants had to keep reapplying each year until everything came together.
Applicants had to own a home, in disrepair, to apply. The cost to demolish the old house and clean up the site, and construct a home for Gonzalez was $81,000. The owner is required to keep the property taxes and home insurance paid to be eligible to continue to live in the house.
The three bedroom, two bath home, located at 1306 3rd Street in Hart, came with the basic appliances of a refrigerator, cookstove, washer and dryer. Also, there is central air conditioning and heating. There is a concrete pad for a vehicle and a front porch; there is no back porch.
Gonzalez is employed.
There are no grant monies presently available for such HOMES, according to City Hall in Hart. [/private]
